FAQs
How does a diaphragm valve work?
The actuator pushes the flexible membrane down onto the weir seat, closing the flow path. Releasing the actuator allows the membrane to lift and flow to resume. Process fluid stays on one side of the membrane, away from the actuating mechanism and bonnet.
Where are diaphragm valves used?
A diaphragm valve is used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, food and beverage processing, dairy, brewing, and winery operations. They are also specified for wastewater treatment and chemical processing where media may be corrosive, abrasive, or require careful containment.
What diaphragm materials are available?
EPDM is commonly selected for food, dairy and pharmaceutical processing, including compatible CIP and SIP duties. PTFE-based diaphragms are often chosen for chemically aggressive media or high-purity applications. Material selection should account for the diaphragm grade, process media, cleaning chemicals, temperature and operating conditions.
