AS 1528.3 Specifications - Tube Fittings
The AS 1528.3 standard aims to provide hygienic tube fittings for dairy, food, and beverage manufacturing. It ensures food safety standards are maintained while being cost-effective and readily available. This is the only dimensionally integrated set of tube and fitting standards globally.
AS 1528.1 is hygienic and most cost-effective option for food industry applications. It ensures high integrity for hygienic lines without needing expensive additional mechanical testing. Batch traceability marking, essential for many food and pharmaceutical plants, is mandatory. Additionally, matching specifications for associated tubes are provided.
Dimensional Tolerances
Wall Thickness
AS 1528.1 specifies a standard nominal thickness of 1.6mm for all ODs, except 2.0mm for 203.2mm OD. Non-standard thicknesses can also be specified. The standard tolerance is +nil, -0.10mm, recognizing the usual practice of producing tubes towards the lower limit of the tolerance range, typically between 1.52 and 1.58mm. Slightly wider tolerances apply to the complementary tube fittings in other parts of AS 1528.
Outside Diameter
AS 1528.1 allows ovality up to double the OD tolerance for all sizes. Despite this allowance, the mean OD must remain within their respective OD tolerances.
This specification provides limits for OD and Wall Thickness but does not separately specify the Inside Diameter, even though it might be logical from a hygiene perspective.
Weld Bead
AS 1528.1 requires the removal of the weld bead, except in small sizes where it's not possible. The internal surface must be smooth, with no lack of weld penetration or crevices adjacent to welds, ensuring freedom from sites for product or bacterial build-up
